Graveyard Gate Card Challenge Stampin’Up!
Hello Everyone, today I am doing a card challenge and will be featuring the gate die from the 2017 Christmas catalog. I’m also teaming up with Sandi over at Stampin with Sandi! We hope to inspire you today!
Our challenge is to create a card using the Gate die. Here is what I came up with.
My share today is a gatefold card. Here’s a look of the die cut piece after I removed all the tiny pieces. I ran a Die Brush over it a bunch of times which helps to get most the bits and pieces off. To achieve a butter smooth die cut, I double shimmed it plus I added a piece of wax paper and ran it through my Big Shot. After a few passes and with the die and papers still in tack, I twirled it on the platform and ran it through again. This ensures even pressure across the die. Well, thats what I think happens! LOL.
Next, using the stamps from Hello Friend and a white card stock panel 4 x 5-1/4″. I used the wreath for the leaves. Ink up a section of the wreath only and stamp 3-4 times in each corner and up the sides and lastly a few times in the centre. I used Lemon Lime Twist….totally love this colour!
Then with the line of flower stamp (not the trio), I randomly stamped each of the colours. Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight, Pink Pirouette. Note, I used 2nd generation stamping with Melon Mamba. Once done, I sponged very lightly with Tempting Turquoise above the flowers to the top of the panel.
The floral panel is to give the gate some stability. Centre the floral panel to the gate die cut and glue together. Then trim off the access card stock at the top of the gate -follow the shape of the gate die cut. There is an edge die included in the set but I just hand cut it. Centre the piece on a trimmer and cut the gate in half and score the gate tab end sections. Those tab end sections will be glued on the backside of the cloud panel.
To create the cloud panel, I used white card stock measuring 4 x 5-1/4″. I sketched a cloud shape on a scrap piece of card stock and cut it out to use as my template. I apologize, I did not take a picture of it but the shape is basically the first cloud you see on the panel. I sponged along the edge of the cloud using Tempting Turquoise and faded outwards, then stagger & sponge across the panel until the panel is filled.
The inside decorative piece was created using the Everyday Label Punch which is from the 2017 Christmas catalog. I stamped the top and bottom of the label as mentioned above and the sentiment is also from the Hello Friend stamp set, inked with Night of Navy. Adhere label centred to cloud panel.
Alright home stretch!! Glue the tab end gate pieces to each side of the cloud panel and reinforce score lines. Close the gate to make sure its even and closes properly. Trim a smidge off the centres if they do not meet.
Now that thats done, I adhered the entire piece onto a Blushing Bride card panel measuring 4-1/4 x 5-1/2″. Using a 1/8 hole punch, punch each side of the gate panel. I used some retired SU twine from my stash to tie the gate doors together.
Lastly, I used the trio flower stamp & the tiny leaves from the Hello Friend stamp set and stamped it out with 2nd generation Melon Mambo and Lemon Lime Twist for the leaves and fussy cut it out. I adhered it to the left gate just below the hole. Looks really pretty when the doors are closed!
Whew!!! That was a lot. I hope you hung in there! If you did, hats off to you!
Now lets hop over to Sandi’s Blog – Stampin with Sandi to see what she created! She’s super talented, I can’t wait to see what she made myself! LOL
