All The Good Things Blog Hop Stampin Up!
Canadian Stampin Up Demonstrator Kathie Zaban – All The Good Things
Welcome everyone! I have another card to share with you and for this weeks blog hop I went with a plain layout but it is all about the bonsai tree! I used the new stamp set called All The Good Things. I love the Koi fish in this set but I decided to play with the bonsai tree first and save the Koi fishes for another card!
Todays card has a simple layout and I used the Stitched Labels Framelits Dies to create the ‘x’ on each of strips. Um, it looked easy but I had to do it a few time before I got it right. Lol. The first challenge is to get a straight even impression across the panels. I used my magnetic plate and some washy tape but you do need to triple check each time before running the strips through the Bigshot. The four strips measure 1-1/4 x 4-1/8. Once done, I raised each section with dimensionals. Lay each end down first and then the centres and space them equally. I stuck the strips onto a separate 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 panel in Whisper White and then adhered it onto a top folding card base to continue with the white on white theme.
Now that the layout is ready, I stamped out the bonsai tree using the Stamparatus and I used Stampin’Write Markers. First I covered the leaves with Lemon Lime Twist for a base colour and then used Granny Apple Green for the mid tone and Mossy Meadow for the dark shadows. I dabbed all over the leafy section with the last two colours and checked until I was happy with the results. Your goal is to get the three different colour tones on the leaves to give it depth and a bit of realism.
Next, I used Crumb Cake Stampin’Write Marker to outline the tree section and inside of the little pot. To add darker shadows, I used Soft Suede and dabbed inside the leafy area to create somewhat of an illusion of branches.
Now for the little pot. I swiped a few times with Bermuda Bay Stampin’Write Marker and the tiniest bit of Soft Suede along the edges of the pot and checked until it was to my liking. Once I was happy with it, I used the largest square from the Stitched Shapes Framelite Dies to cut out the image. With the die still intact to the panel, lightly shade around the edges with Balmy Blue using a sponge dauber and back it onto a Bermuda Bay panel that measures 2-3/4″ square for that splash of colour!
Lastly, I wanted a small sentiment to not take away from the tree. I rummaged through my stash and found the perfect sentiment from the Cake Soiree stamp set and white heat embossed it on a piece of Bermuda Bay. I didn’t want to hid the little details I created in the leafy area, so I placed the image and sentiment on the other side of the card layout.
Well thats my card for today, hope you enjoyed it. Up next is Eva….
